Toronto's largest food bank is falling short of its spring collection goal.

The Daily Bread Food Bank's spring goal is to raise $300,000 and 300,000 pounds of food by April 13. The money and food will be distributed to community food centres, food banks, meal programs, and homeless shelters in Toronto.

However, they've only raised $158,000 and 69,000 pounds of food so far, according to the Daily Bread website.

"This is abnormally slow," said Daily Bread Food Bank executive director Gail Nyberg.

"I think the two budgets- the federal and provincial budgets- actually scared people's wallets closed."

Their website also lists the food bank's most needed food items, which include: baby formula, beans and lentils, rice, peanut butter, canned, powdered, or tetra-pak cartons of milk, dried pasta and tomato sauce, and various canned items.

Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at local fire halls or at the Daily Bread Food Bank main facility at 191 New Toronto Street.
