Toronto police are trying to piece together the chain of events that caused a condo fire in a downtown high-rise and led to the death of a man discovered on the street below.

Toronto Fire crews rushed to the condo tower at 55 Bremner Blvd. at about 6:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a bedroom fire on the 41st floor.

Meanwhile, one person was found dead on Lakeshore Boulevard, near the Air Canada Centre.

Another person was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, police said.

Toronto fire crews have knocked out the fire and continue to check the building for structural problems.

Police say residents will be allowed to return home shortly.
