TORONTO - A Toronto police officer has been charged after an altercation that left a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The Special Investigations Unit says it has "reasonable grounds" to believe the officer committed criminal offences in relation to injuries sustained by Liboth Bangala last December.

Const. Corey Dunk is facing one charge of assault with a weapon, and one charge of careless use of a firearm.

He is set to appear in court June 5.

The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
