Two orphan dogs that grew up in Iran are up for adoption in Toronto, after an international Humane Society reached out for help finding them a home.

Nancy and Sepehr, two medium-sized dogs, arrived in Toronto on April 5 after they were seized from a dilapidated zoo in Iran.

An Iranian shelter seized a total of 15 dogs but could not put them up for adoption in that country. According to Humane Society International, Iran has recently considered banning pet ownership.

Humane Society International arranged to have the dogs moved to various cities around the world, with Nancy and Sepehr being transported to Toronto.

Veterinarians in Toronto have checked their animal history to confirm vaccinations and test the dogs for parasites. Both dogs had minor medical procedures to fix dental problems before being put up for adoption.

Nancy is a white-and-black female Schnauzer-Basset Hound mix and Sepehr is a gold-coloured male Basset Hound. Both dogs are about eight years old and have been spayed and neutered.

Animal services says that the dogs are emotionally bonded to one another and need to find a home together.
