A 24-year man is dead after falling about 100 metres from the Scarborough Bluffs.

Police say they received a distress call at about 1:15 a.m. Monday morning reporting that a man had fallen over the edge of the Scarborough Bluffs in the city's east end.

His body was recovered from the water beneath the bluffs early Monday.

Officers were at the scene through the morning and a stretch of police tape blocked off a section near Ceicel Crescent, south of Midland Avenue and Kingston Road.

A collection of lawn chairs stood at the top of the bluffs, a short distance away from a sign warning people to staff away from the bluffs.

Police have referred to the incident as a case of misadventure.
