Emergency officials rushed to the aid of a terrified couple Wednesday afternoon after a man fell down a rock cliff west of Toronto.

Police received a call shortly after noon that someone was trapped on a cliff in the Mount Nemo Conservation Area in Ontario's Niagara Escarpment.

A woman was found at the top of the cliff where a man had fallen about seven metres and landed on a rocky outcrop.

Emergency workers sent a basket down from the top of the cliff to rescue the man, who is believed to have suffered a fractured ankle.
