Two people have pleaded guilty to the killing of Valencia Russo, a mother and teacher whose body was found in the trunk of a car in July 2009.

On Friday, Juan Antonio Reyes pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and his wife, Laura Rodriguez, pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter.

The couple was arrested in Mexico in 2009 and was extradited to Canada to face the charges.

Russo had a 14-year-old son with Toronto Coun. Cesar Palacio.

Speaking to CTV Toronto, Palacio said nothing could bring back his son's mother.

"It's a relief, but it's sadness at the same time," said Palacio.

Reyes and Rodriguez were caught after they used the slain woman's bank card in Mexico.
